Freedom of speech and cultural expression are cornerstones of democracy. It is not only a right but also an effective tool for societal change. With the campaign “A Beat for Democracy", Sida sheds light on the role of democracy together with artists – in this show with a performance and conversation with Ramy Essam from Egypt.

During the Arab spring, his songs were sung by hundreds of thousands and gave power to the protests on Tahrir Square. As a result, he was captured and tortured, but never silenced. Today, his struggle continues from abroad, using music to create change.
