About Göteborg Book Fair

Göteborg Book Fair is the biggest meeting place for the book trade in the Nordic countries. The first Fair was held in 1985 and had 5,000 visitors. Since then, it has grown year after year and in 2008 no fewer than 101,000 visits were registered during the four days.

The 28th Book Fair takes place between 27-30 of September 2012 at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Göteborg. This year, the Nordic literature will be in focus.

37% of the visitors are from the trade, with the two largest groups made up of teachers and librarians.
Göteborg Book Fair is comprised of three sections running in parallel:
- A comprehensive conference programme of seminars and events.
- Several exhibition halls with ongoing activities at the stands and on special stages.
- International Rights Centre for publishers and agents buying and selling rights.

No other book fair in the world offers such a comprehensive conference programme as the Göteborg Book Fair. In 2011 it included 434 seminars with more than 800 participants from 38 countries, running over four days. In addition to the seminars, there are events on the different stages and activities in the exhibition stands throughout the whole Fair. The Book Fair 2011 offered more than 3,000 different programmes and events with about 2,100 participating speakers.
More than 900 exhibitors cover most sectors of the book trade, including fiction, non-fiction, books for children and young adults, educational books, picture-books, magazines, comic books, libraries, art and much, much more.

Göteborg Book Fair takes place at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre located in the centre of the city of Göteborg. Gothia Towers, the largest hotel in the Nordic region, is also located in the Exhibition Centre.

Welcome to the 28th Göteborg Book Fair in September 2012!

History

In 1985 the first Göteborg Library Fair was arranged purely as a trade fair for librarians. The number of visitors was just over 5 000.

The following year the fair opened up for the publishing trade as a whole - as well as for the book loving public. The number of visitors rose dramatically to 25 000!

Throughout the years the fair has developed into an important cultural manifestation and has today become Northern Europe's largest book fair, with more than 100,000 visitors every year.

Göteborg Book Fair (The company name: Bok & Bibliotek i Norden AB) has also produced a number of other different cultural fairs, such as:

The Photographic Fair 1991, 1993, 1995
The Theatre Fair 1995
The Nordic Museum Fair 1996 and 1998
The Music Fair 1996

The Nordic School Leader Congress, a biannual fair, was organized by the Göteborg Book Fair for the first time in 2005. The next congress will be held in March 2012.
